Worcester City vs Long Eaton United
Northern Premier League – Midlands Division – 25/01/2025
County Sports Ground – 3pm KO
Long Eaton are back in league action for the first time since the 3-2 win over leaders Quorn.
The Blues had a weekend off last week, playing on Monday evening instead against Derby County U21’s in the Derbyshire FA Senior Challenge Cup which finished 2-1 to the Rams.
The week prior, the league game against Bedworth United was postponed minutes before kick-off.
The race for the play-offs is as close as it has ever been, there is still plenty of football to play however teams will have to step up to the plate if they want to be in the top five come the end of the season.
The Blues travel to Worcester City tomorrow afternoon, who currently occupy third position in the league table. City have two games in hand on Long Eaton, with four more points.
Brad Munn’s side sit fifth on 42 points.
The Reverse Fixture:
Both sides faced each other in the league on Saturday the 12th of October 2024.
Worcester won the game 2-1 which took place at the Family Only Stadium at Grange Park.
All of the action took place in the second half.
Liam Lockett opened the scoring for the visitors in the 54th minute with James Shaw equalising two minutes later for Long Eaton.
Felix Miles scored the winner for Worcester in the 73rd minutes. City left with all three points.
Current Form:
The Blues are unbeaten in their last six league fixtures.
Three wins and three draws making up the clubs current form.
Draws against Lye Town, Sporting Khalsa and Hinckley LRFC earned three points.
This was alongside victories against Wellingborough Town, Grantham Town and Quorn.
The boys have plenty of momentum heading into this one.
It is only one loss for Worcester in their previous six.
Worcester City have won their last two league games, beating Hinckley LRFC 1-0 and thrashing Grantham Town 5-0.
They drew against Quorn 3-3 and won matches playing AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Boldmere St Michaels.
Their only loss in their last six came against Bedworth United on the 23rd of November 2024 when City suffered a 3-0 defeat.
It is two in-form teams going head-to-head on Saturday afternoon.
Brad Munn and Connor Pace speak ahead of Worcester City:
Brad Munn:
“We are confident. We needed this game (vs Derby County u’21s) because we have not played for so long. We now do not have that excuse of not playing games, so we are going back into Saturday full of confidence.”
“We are playing against a side (Worcester City) that certainly won’t play the way we’ve played against on Monday night.”
“We go into every game trying to win it, it is as simple as that. We are not going there for a point, we will certainly be going there for three. They’re a good side on a good run and there is no fluke to as why they are in the position in the table.”
Long Eaton can go seven games unbeaten in the league tomorrow.
“So we will go there full of confidence, with big smiles on our faces and hopefully try and continue this unbeaten run but getting a win not a draw.”
Connor Pace:
“It is massive. Obviously we know that Worcester is a tough fixture.
“We played them at our ground and it is massive. When you have got to play those teams that are in and around it you have got to go and take all three points, especially away from home.
“The lads are up for it, we are up for the challenge and let’s go and do the business.”
So it is a challenging yet crucial fixture on Saturday as both teams look to continue their good runs of form and put a statement out to the teams around them.”
Away support, like every fixture, would be appreciated hugely.
Let’s get behind the boys in blue.
You Blues!
