Long Eaton United vs Wellingborough Town
Northern Premier League – Midlands Division
21/12/2024 – Grange Park – 3pm KO
It is the last game before Christmas for the Blues as we welcome Wellingborough Town to the Family Only Stadium at Grange Park.
Long Eaton are looking to get back to winning ways after a 2-2 draw to Sporting Khalsa on Tuesday evening. An 87th minute equaliser stopped Brad Munn’s side from securing all three points.
The Blues currently sit seventh in the league table, with Saturday’s visitors only three points behind in ninth, with a game in hand.
The race for the play-offs continues to heat up.
The reverse fixture:
The two sides met on the opening day of the season this year (10th August 2024).
Wellingborough were unfortunately the victors on that occasion with a goal from George Barnell in the 18th minute.
Meaning there is an extra level of determination for the Blues on Saturday to make sure that they get their revenge on ‘The Doughboys’.
Current Form:
The Blues have registered one win in their last six games in the league.
That came against Coventry Sphinx on the 7th of December.
Apart from that there has been draws against Rugby Town, Lye Town and Sporting Khalsa.
The losses have been against Racing Club Warwick and Loughborough Students.
Wellingborough Town come into this fixture on a two-win streak. A 2-0 win against Sporting Khalsa on the 14th of December and a 2-1 win over Grantham Town on the 30th of November shows why Saturday will be a challenge for Long Eaton.
In the fixtures prior to those wins, The Doughboys had drawn to Darlaston Town and AFC Rushden & Diamonds and suffered losses to Worcester City and Quorn.
Munn looks ahead to Wellingborough Town fixture:
‘We have started off the second half of the season better than we started the first half of the season because we lost away at Wellingborough and we’ve got an opportunity to put that right on Saturday.’
‘Going into Wellingborough we have to go and get those three points and they are a team that has come up and they are just a good, together group and they have added where they needed to’.
‘They are there or there abouts, I think they may be a bit of a surprise outfit on the season for some people that have been in the league for a while but they have proved week in, week out that they are staying.’
‘We need to try and put a little bit of a gap between ourselves and it is important that we come here (Grange Park), try to get to that point and take home three points.’
This has the potential to be a decisive fixture come the end of the season so make sure to get down to the Family Only Stadium for some festive football action this Saturday (3pm KO).
You Blues!
