Despite a promising start to the match from Long Eaton, Ben Billingham put the hosts ahead in the 14th minute. Nathan Kabeya’s decoy run afforded Billingham the space to run in behind and tuck the ball past Lewis King for the opener.
However, The Blues were able to equalise 15 minutes later when Liam Loughlan weaved his way past two defenders and slotted the ball through for Garnett to thunder into the top corner.
Jamie Hanson almost completed a first-half comeback for Long Eaton in the build-up to the break. Archie White’s outswinging free-kick landed at the feet of the centre half who managed to get his shot away but the hosts goalkeeper Ben Newey made a remarkable reflex save to deny Hanson.
In first-half injury time, Ben Usher-Shipway’s long throw-in found its way to Sam Fitzgerald who restored the hosts advantage with a volley from the edge of the area which flew into the top corner.
Shortly after the restart, another throw-in caused trouble for United. This time Usher-Shipway’s delivery was flicked on by Taylor Carter-Byrne and finished at the far post by Billingham to bag his brace and double Coleshill’s lead.
With ten minutes of regular time to go, White slipped Garnett through one-on-one and the Long Eaton number nine reduced the deficit with a composed finish.
Garnett’s second goal looked like it could inspire a late comeback from the visitors. With one last push White whipped in a cross which Ryley D’Sena headed goalwards but Newey was equal to it and punched the effort clear.
