Long Eaton United aim to carry cup confidence into the league as The Blues travel to the Bracken Moor Stadium to face Stocksbridge Park Steels on Tuesday evening.
At the weekend, a 3-1 win away to Hednesford Town saw Long Eaton advance to Second Round Qualifying of the Emirates FA Cup - the first time they have done so in consecutive seasons since 1972.
Jack Rogers’ brace and Micah Jebbison’s volley provided United with a 3-0 lead at the break. Tyreece Robinson’s controversial dismissal in the 55th minute reduced The Blues to ten-men but the hosts could only find a late consolation goal from caretaker manager/player Leroy Lita.
The Opposition
Stocksbridge Park Steels had an almost identical start to Long Eaton United in the Northern Premier League East Division.
The Steels won their league opener against Dunston UTS 3-2 but have since drawn twice and lost once. At the weekend they advanced to the Second Round Qualifying in the Emirates FA Cup with a 2-1 win at home to Atherton Collieries.
Atherton took the lead after a goalless first half but goals from Steels’ Ross Goodwin and Elliot Murray completed the comeback in the cup.
The Manager’s Quotes
Following a fantastic First Round Qualifying win in the Emirates FA Cup against Hednesford Town, Ian Deakin looked ahead to Tuesday night’s fixture. “Performances on Saturday were great [but] you will obviously be looking at tired legs and any injuries or strains. Larell [King] limped off, Kam [Campbell] pulled up with cramp, and did a hell of a lot of running. We will monitor them along with the existing players that we have out injured.”
Deakin was delighted with the result at the weekend and quickly turned attention back to the victory, The Blues' boss said: "It was all about Saturday really, we wanted to get through to the next round, have a performance, bounce back, and we did that.
