Long Eaton United continued their unbeaten start to the league with a fourth consecutive victory last Tuesday. The Blues beat Heather St. John’s 7-2 at home, despite trailing 2-1 in the 22nd minute.
James Taylor provided an early lead before the visitors snatched two goals back. Romaine Graham scored before the break to level it again and goals from Kieran Walker, Alex Marshall, Jude Brittain, and a brace from James Shaw gave the Blues a substantial lead in the second half.
Racing Club Warwick experienced their third draw of the season in a midweek visit to The CKW Stadium to play AFC Wulfrunians. The Racers led by a goal at half-time through Nick Seabourne, but a 90th minute equaliser from Jack Till saw the points shared.
Managers Quotes:
Ian Deakin refuses to get carried away with Long Eaton’s recent results, speaking after the 7-2 win, he said: “It is the same as every other game, we take them each as they come, the lads are in a good vein of form at the moment. We will be looking to go into that game and win it, play our way. We are looking forward to it."
There was one change to the starting 11 last match, Sam Wilson was replaced by Marcus Coombs in goal, Deakin explained: “Sam [Wilson] unfortunately had work commitments, he works at Mansfield Town and their youth team played away at Manchester United on Tuesday, and that comes first when you play part-time.
“I know he was gutted to miss it, Marcus [Coombs] came in and he did very well, he did what we asked him to do, it is good for me to have that depth to rely on. Sam [Wilson] will be back on Saturday, but Marcus [Coombs] did very well on Tuesday and did himself no harm.
Previous meetings:
Supporters can expect to see a high scoring match on Saturday if last season’s meetings are anything to go by.
The two sides played on three separate occasions in the cancelled 2019/20 campaign, the season opener ended 2-2 at Grange Park, then Long Eaton travelled to Warwickshire for a 3-2 victory in the FA Vase.
On the third Occasion, once again at Townsend Meadow, the Racers got the better of the Blues in another match that ended 3-2. Midfielder Jude Brittain got his name on the scoresheet in both league matches last year, and will be eying up a second goal of the season after he got off the mark with a penalty against Heather St. John’s on Tuesday.
